Your Guide to LEGO® Christmas Decorations

Header.jpg

There’s something about the festive season that just makes you want to grab your bricks and get building, right? Maybe it’s the nostalgia of spending the Christmas holidays getting stuck into a new build, or maybe we’re just looking for any excuse to play with LEGO® sets. Regardless, at WeBuyBricks, we’re a little bit obsessed with Christmas (and LEGO®, obviously), so when those two things come together, you know we’re in full holiday mode. Whether it’s decking out our desks with mini trees or hanging a Santa ornament next to the tinsel, LEGO® Christmas decorations are one of our favourite parts of the season.

We’ve built (and rebuilt) most of the festive sets over the years and spent more time than we’d like to admit scrolling for new ornament ideas. So, we decided to pull all our Christmas LEGO® knowledge into one handy guide. This is your ultimate look at LEGO® Christmas decorations for 2025 – from official sets to DIY magic, where to buy them, and how to make your own festive brick traditions.

Whether you’re a seasoned Winter Village collector, a parent looking for fun crafts with the kids, or just someone who loves decorating the tree with something a bit different, this blog is for you.

Let’s jump in and make this the most bricktastic Christmas yet!

Official LEGO® Christmas Decorations for 2025

If you love combining your holiday decorating with brick-building, LEGO® has delivered some real festive gems this year. From cheerful ornaments to big centrepiece builds, the 2025 lineup brings all the charm (and then some). We've been hands-on with a few of these already, and here’s what we think stands out.

LEGO® Family Christmas Tree Decoration (41843)

LEGO® Family Christmas Tree Decoration (41843).jpg

This is the big one for 2025 – a massive 3,171-piece build that isn’t just for show. The tree opens up to reveal four cosy little rooms inside, complete with elves, Santa, reindeer, plushies and even a brick-built character called “Cataclaws” (yes, really). There are working knobs that make elements move, and it’s split into modular sections so you can store or build it easily over a few evenings with the family. We think it’s the ultimate LEGO® Christmas centrepiece. It’s festive, fun, and surprisingly detailed.

Snowman Ornaments (40812)

If you’re after decorations that can actually hang on your tree, this 168-piece set is a winner. You get multiple snowman builds with different faces and accessories, which means you can tweak them to suit your tree’s personality, which we love! These are affordable, easy to build, and make great stocking fillers or evening activities for families. We’ll definitely be scattering a few across our office tree this year.

Upscaled Santa Minifigure (40820)

Imagine your regular LEGO® Santa, then make him huge. That’s basically this 761-piece festive icon. It’s a fun one for display shelves or to plonk in the middle of your mantelpiece. While it’s not really a toy for kids to handle (unless you want pieces flying everywhere), it makes for a brilliant holiday talking point.

LEGO® Ornament Selection (40744)

LEGO® Ornament Selection (40744).jpg

This returning favourite includes four mini hanging builds: a present, reindeer, snowman, and Santa. It’s a compact set, but we love how easy it is to incorporate into any Christmas setup. Plus, since this one's now marked as “retiring soon,” it might be your last chance to grab it before it disappears into second-hand territory.

LEGO® Icons Holiday Express Train (10361)

LEGO® Icons Holiday Express Train (10361).jpg

Technically more of a display set than a decoration, but if you’ve got space under your tree, this festive train is absolutely worth the build. With 956 pieces, a working smokestack, festive carriages and even a bell-ringing polar bear, this one’s designed for both solo builds and family collaboration. And if you’re into motorising your models, this train can run loops around your tree with the Powered Up kit. Very cool.

DIY & Custom LEGO® Christmas Decoration Ideas

DIY & Custom LEGO® Christmas Decoration Ideas.jpg

One of the best things about building with LEGO®? You’re only ever a handful of bricks away from something totally unique! While the official sets are brilliant, some of our favourite festive decorations come from the community, or from our own builds after a dig through the parts drawer.

If you’re in the mood to get creative this Christmas, here are some fun, DIY LEGO® decoration ideas that we’ve tried (or spotted and saved for inspiration):

Custom Hanging Ornaments

Whether you want a LEGO® bauble with a minifigure inside or a tiny brick-built Santa to hang on the tree, your options are endless. You can build:

  • Mini Santa heads, reindeer, penguins or elves using basic bricks
  • Micro-builds of Christmas presents or stockings
  • Clear baubles that open up and fit a festive minifigure scene inside (tip: use a little snow confetti or white bricks for a snowy effect)

Not only do they look great on your tree, but they also make super fun handmade gifts for friends and family.

DIY LEGO® Snowflakes & Stars

This is a favourite in our office - building geometric snowflakes from white and translucent blue bricks. You can use plates, clips, and small angled elements to get really intricate designs. Stars are another easy win, especially if you want something to sit on top of a mini tree or just hang in the window.

Brick-Built Wreaths & Stockings

In the past, LEGO® released sets for these (like the Christmas Wreath 2-in-1), but you can totally make your own. We’ve seen amazing circular builds that use Technic beams and plates to form wreath shapes, then decorate them with bows, candles, and tiny gift builds. And stocking shapes are simple enough to create with basic red and white bricks. Bonus points if you add a name tag!

Festive LEGO® Minifigure Scenes

If you’ve got holiday-themed minifigs (Santa, elves, reindeer, or even Chewbacca in a Christmas jumper), you can easily build small dioramas to display them on your mantelpiece or table. Add some snow covered trees, gifts, or brick built fireplaces and you’ve got a mini winter wonderland.

LEGO® Winter Village & Seasonal Display Sets

LEGO® Winter Village & Seasonal Display Sets.jpg

If you’re someone who loves turning your living room into a magical scene each December, or November if you’re one of those people (we are, no judging!), the LEGO® Winter Village collection is where the real Christmas magic happens. These seasonal display sets are bigger, more detailed, and absolutely made for fans who enjoy building immersive holiday scenes (guilty!).

Over the years, a new Winter Village set has been released almost every year, each one with its own charm, characters, and snowy sparkle. From toy shops and post offices to gingerbread houses and festive trains, there’s a real storybook quality to these sets. They're perfect for creating your own miniature Christmas town on the mantelpiece or under the tree.

Here are a few fan-favourites we’ve loved:

  • Santa’s Visit (10293) – A cosy home built with a working chimney for Santa to slide down (yes, really).
  • Gingerbread House (10267) – One of the most whimsical sets ever, with candy cane columns and frosted roof tiles.
  • Holiday Main Street (10308) – A bustling town centre scene with shops, tram, and carol singers – great for expanding your festive layout.
  • Winter Village Fire Station (10263) – For those who like a bit of action with their snowflakes.

Pro tip: Add in some white baseplates or cotton wool for snow, fairy lights for glow, and even some minifigures from your other LEGO® sets to bring your scene to life. We’ve seen people include Batman delivering presents, because why not?

We’ve already written a deeper dive into some of our favourite Winter Village builds over on the blog; you can check that out here: Top LEGO® Christmas Sets for 2025.

Where to Find Retired LEGO® Christmas Decorations

Where to Find Retired LEGO® Christmas Decorations.jpg

As every long-time builder knows, the bittersweet part of being a LEGO® fan is that some of the best seasonal builds eventually retire. Whether it's a cosy cottage from the Winter Village series or a charming hanging ornament you missed the year it launched, retired LEGO® Christmas decorations have a way of becoming collector favourites fast.

Discontinued LEGO® Holiday Sets You Should Know About

Some of the most iconic holiday-themed LEGO® sets are no longer available directly from LEGO®. These include:

  • Santa’s Sleigh (40499) – A fan favourite, featuring Santa and four reindeer. It’s officially retired and only available on the resale market now.
  • Christmas Tree (40573) – A festive build that’s now marked as “retiring soon” or already retired on many platforms.
  • LEGO® Ornament Selection (40744) – A 4-in-1 buildable ornament pack that’s becoming harder to find at retail.
  • Santa’s Post Office (10293) – Part of the beloved LEGO® Winter Village line, this set is officially listed as retired for the 2025 season.
  • Christmas Table Decoration (40743) – A beautiful, compact centrepiece that’s no longer widely available.

And of course, older LEGO® Winter Village sets like the Holiday Train (10254) or the Toy Shop (10199) have long disappeared from shelves and are now considered collector’s gold.
